We stepped off the train, walked out of the station and were greeted by 120 islands connected by 400 bridges and 45 km of canals. Sidewalk vendors and artists lined the main walkways and piazzas. An abundance of shops offered leather bags, glassware, elaborate masquerade masks and costumes. Of course, there were a variety of restaurants and gelato stands.
We stayed at a hotel outside of Venice and took the 20 minute train ride whenever we wanted to visit the hub. This allowed us to enjoy quiet nights relaxing at the outdoor lounge of our hotel after mixing with crowds of tourists during the day.
